A Day in the Life of Select Offshore’s Contractor Care Team
Being part of the Contractor Care Team at Select Offshore is all about people.
Myself, Amelia and our newest team member, Conrad, are here to make sure our contractors feel supported, informed and comfortable throughout their journey with Select. From the moment someone joins us, right through to the end of their contract, we’re there to help make the experience as smooth and positive as possible.
For me, that’s what makes the role so rewarding. No two days are the same, and while there are plenty of calls and information we need to collect, at the heart of it is simply being there for people when they need us.
Starting the Day
A typical day can start in several ways. We might be checking in with contractors, responding to messages and emails, following up on onboarding requirements or preparing for calls.
One of the most important parts of our role is making sure contractors have everything they need before they head offshore. That can mean checking that the right documentation is in place, making sure they understand their rotation, answering questions about their assignment or simply talking things through if they’re unsure about something.
Sometimes a contractor may have a straightforward question, and other times they might need a little more support. I really enjoy being able to take the time to listen and understand what they need rather than simply giving them a quick answer.
Onboarding Support
Onboarding calls are a big part of what we do. Starting a new contract can be exciting, but it can also come with a lot of questions. There can be new processes to understand, documents to complete, travel arrangements to think about and rotations to get used to.
Our job is to make that transition feel as easy as possible and make everyone feel at ease. During an onboarding call, we can talk contractors through what to expect, check they have the information they need and give them an opportunity to ask questions.
I think sometimes the biggest thing we can provide is reassurance. Knowing there is someone at the end of the phone who is happy to help can make a real difference.
No Two Days Are the Same
One of the things I like most about working in Contractor Care is that you never quite know what the day is going to bring.
We take calls throughout the week from contractors who might have an issue they need help resolving. It could be something practical, a question about their contract or rotation, documentation they’re unsure about, or simply something that they need clarification on.
Some problems can be resolved quickly, while others take a little more investigation and communication behind the scenes, which I personally always enjoy as I get to interact with the team more.
I enjoy that problem solving side of the role. It’s a great feeling when someone calls with an issue and, by the end of the conversation, you know you’ve helped make things easier for them, especially when you receive good feedback.
Supporting Contractors Through Their Rotations
Working offshore comes with its own unique challenges, particularly when it comes to rotations and being away from home. That’s why keeping in touch and making sure contractors are comfortable with their arrangements is so important to us.
We want contractors to feel and know that they are not just another number. They’re people, and we want them to know that we’re here to support them and have the best possible experience.
Sometimes that means having a conversation about how their rotation is going, making sure they have the right information before they travel, or helping them navigate an issue that has come up while they’re working. For me, the personal side of the role is what makes it enjoyable.
Support When The Rotation Ends
Our support doesn’t stop when a contractor finishes an assignment. Offboarding calls give us the chance to check in, understand how the contractor's experience has been and make sure everything is wrapped up properly. It’s also a valuable opportunity to listen.
We want to know what went well, whether there were any challenges and if there is anything we could do differently or better in the future. Those conversations help us continually improve the contractor experience, and I think it’s important that contractors feel their feedback is genuinely heard.
Why I Enjoy Contractor Care
What I enjoy most about my role is knowing that I can make a difference, even in small ways. Sometimes helping someone might mean solving a problem that has been worrying them and sometimes it’s answering a question they’ve been unsure about.
I have always liked helping people and having a chat, so for me this role is a perfect match to my personality. I also like that I am having an impact on different colleagues in the office, adding contractor care to Select has taken away the stress of having to sort out issues that people may be having, and when they are juggling multiple tasks at once, I can take the time to sit down and listen to issues and make our contractors feel at ease and reassured.
For me, being part of the Contractor Care Team is about much more than just managing contracts and processes. It’s about building relationships, being someone contractors can rely on and helping make their experience with Select Offshore as positive as possible. I’m really enjoying being part of the team, working alongside my colleagues Amelia and Conrad, and I’m looking forward to continuing to support our contractors every step of the way.
